We share our passion for the Green Mountain State during guided and self-guided, inn-based hiking, bicycling, snowshoeing and cross country trips. Some of our trips are van supported, providing you with the opportunity to get to the next inn under your own steam, knowing that your suitcase will be waiting for you in your room at the end of the day.  On other trips we use vans to transport guests from point to point, followed by day hikes while based in one or more of Vermont's many charming inns.  Either way, you'll have great great food, awesome scenery and exercise, and you will be able to experience the beauty of Vermont at a pace that enables you to savor it.   Each step of the way is filled with history, which we’ll share with you, along with verses from our dog-eared copy of Robert Frost’s poetry.  We also provide guided day trips, and cross country skiing lessons. In her spare time, Deborah Lewis also teaches cross country skiing to school kids at Rikert Ski Touring Center.

For a vivid sense of what it's like to snowshoe in Vermont, please check out the recent television footage of one of our Vermont inn-to-inn snowshoeing trips offered though REI Adventures by visiting the Channel 3 TV Burlington (Vermont) web site.  Make sure to click on the movie camera icon next to "inn to inn winter vacations" to see the movie.

Here's a summary of our custom Vermont Guiding Services:

.

  • Activities:  hiking, bicycling, cross country skiing, snowshoeing.  We'll take you to some of the nicest ponds and swimming holes to cool off during or after our summer outings.  Winter trips can also include a carnival of other fun activities such as sledding, sleigh rides and ice skating.
  • Local flavor:  we explore the "localvore" attractions such as cheese farms, sugar shacks and vineyards.  Supporting area farms was never so delicious!
  • Hidden (and not so hidden) history:  we'll explore hidden, historical by-ways, including cellar holes (one with an infamous history), Robert Frost's cabin, revolutionary war sites, and remnants of quaint and long-gone downhill ski areas from the 1940's.
  • Guiding options: guided, self-guided or both.  You can choose a trip that is entirely self-guided or entirely guided, or we can design a trip for you that gives you autonomy on some days and the carefree comfort of a knowledgeable and fun guide on others.
  • Trails: Our choices include some of Vermont's famous trails such as the Long Trail, the Appalachian Trail or the Catamount trail, or any one of many lesser known and off-the-beat path options.
  • Lodging:  charming Vermont inns.  We travel inn-to-inn on foot with bags shuttled ahead by van, or we travel by van to our next inn and use the inn as a base for day hikes.
  • Length:  ranging from day trips to 10 days
  • Locations:   Champlain Valley and Moosalamoo (Middlebury area), Chittenden/Killington, Stowe, Woodstock and Craftsbury Common are just a few of the choices.  Additionally, we have been scouting out inn-to-inn cross country skiing and snowshoeing trips on the Jackrabbit Trail near Lake Placid in New York's Adirondacks.
  • Level: beginner to expert
  • Participants:  individuals, small groups, couples, families, friends, girlfriend get-aways
  • Lessons:  snowshoeing and cross country skiing
  • Cost for guided, overnight trips:  the price will vary according to the inn and other factors. Generally, the price per person per day double occupancy starts at $275 including accommodation, transportation to daily outings where applicable, hot breakfast, picnic  lunch, snacks, gourmet multi-course dinner, maps, historical/cultural information and expert guide services; based on a four person minimum.  Please contact us for a specific quote.
  • Cost for day guiding (no overnights):  $100 person, minimum of two people. Lower prices for groups. Please contact us for a specific quote based on your individual or group needs.

In addition to private Bredeson Outdoor Adventures departures, we also offer Vermont trips in partnership with major international adventure travel companies.
